After a child suffered a serious cycling injury in Chester, members of the public stopped and began emergency first aid while another person contacted 999 and flagged down a police patrol.

Cheshire Constabulary reports that PCs Brockley and Ricardo joined the lifesaving effort, applying pressure to the wound while seeking ambulance assistance. Sergeant Bithell and PC Wall then arrived with specialist trauma equipment and training.

The group brought the bleeding under control before ambulance crews arrived. The child later underwent surgery and was expected to make a full recovery.

The incident is notable not only for the officers’ response but for the cooperation between police and members of the public. It is an example of community safety working exactly as it should: people acting together while specialist help is on the way.
