PCSO Kenny Lewis was on patrol in Bilston town centre when a toddler in a pushchair began choking on a sweet. The child’s mother and grandmother were understandably distressed as the little girl struggled to breathe.

According to West Midlands Police, Kenny acted immediately and used his first-aid training to dislodge the obstruction. The child began breathing again and the family were left relieved and grateful.

The force described Kenny as a familiar neighbourhood officer who has served as a PCSO for 16 years. The story is a good example of a part of community policing that is easy to overlook: officers and PCSOs are often present when an ordinary day suddenly becomes an emergency.
